Models and Approach
In working with trauma survivors, I start by creating safety and a solid working relationship. From there, we begin looking more deeply into the feelings and symptoms which may be distressing you. Many people are surprised to find parts of themselves operating behind the scenes that they lost touch with long ago, maybe after a bad thing happen. Just reconnecting with these parts of themselves has a healing effect. Going deeper can even resolve past traumas and relieve troubling symptoms.
The foundation of my approach is Internal Family Systems (IFS). As we get into the work, other techniques and modalities can enhance the work. These include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), , Trauma Dynamics (TD), and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also bring perspectives to the work from mindfulness practices, Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory, Feminist Theory, Narrative Therapy, Experiential Therapy in general and Gestalt Therapy in particular.
